How can I tell which M.2 hard drives will work in this device?

This device can adapt an M.2 SATA B or B+M key drive to standard SATA connections, which is not possible for a PCIe based M.2 drive. Only an M.2 SATA drive will operate with this device. PCIe-based M.2 drives are not compatible with this device.

Why is my brand-new SATA M.2 drive not showing up?

Before you can access a new or formatted drive in your operating system, you need to initialize it first and then create a partition on the drive if one is not already present. This method may vary by operating system.

How do I initialize a drive in Windows?

Press the Windows key + R, type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. Right-click the new drive & select Initialize. If on Windows 7+ or a 2TB+ drive, choose GPT, use MBR for older Windows versions. Format this new drive before use.

How do I initialize a drive in macOS?

Mac OSX/macOS detects a drive that needs to be initialized automatically and will ask you to do so. If you are prompted to initialize, click Initialize. If you are not and you can’t find the drive in Finder, you will need to partition the drive.
